With this tree I was trying to recapture the trees of our childhood. I remember going with my father to cut fresh cedar trees when I was a little girl. We always had C-7 and bubble lights, and John's tree had flourescents. John's had a finial topper, we had the aluminum garland, so this tree has ended up being a hybrid of both of our trees as we remember them. This artificial tree is the closest to the shape of a cedar that I could find. You can't tell, but the tree skirt is made of overlapping quilt squares pieced by my grandmother over 60 years ago, and I was very fortunate to find the aluminum garland. We've collected vintage ornaments for the tree and toys that were popular when we were children (and which bring back many fond memories) for the vignette under the tree. I also did a little "retro" village on the desk/bookcase beside the tree. The Santa on this tree is vintage.
