| Hello there, welcome to my page. I'm Pearl, and I'm the newest member of this family, and boy, have I had an eventful life. Mom and Poppa got me from the SPCA. They don't know much about me and I'm not telling. Ha, ha! My former human took me and my sister, who was about to have babies, to the SPCA because she couldn't afford us any more. I'm not very expensive, I don't think, but there you go. Anyway, I was only there for four days before Poppa came in looking for a white kitty. I'm a white kitty, so the rest is history, as they say. They adopted me and Poppa took me home with him the very next day. Boy, was I lucky I didn't have to stay there any longer. They were real nice to me, but I don't like living in a cage all the time. Mom and Poppa took me to the vet and had me tested for any bad diseases. I didn't have any, and they were very glad. You see, they have 9 other kitties and they didn't want any of them to get a bad disease from me after I met them. Plus, they wanted me to be healthy. The SPCA didn't know much about me. I was at my former human's about 18 months, it seems, and I was a kitten when I went there. So, Mom and Poppa and the vet are guessing I'm about 2 years old--about the same age as Poupón, Saki, Elton, and Cricket. Mom and Poppa love me very much, I think. They pet me a lot and I purr for them. My former human named me Sugar. Mom says that's because I'm so sweet. (My sister's name was Spice. Sadly, all of her babies went to the Rainbow Bridge soon after they were born. Spice was adopted by a good friend of Mom's and Poppa's so now she's having a good life, too.) I was kind of skinny and Mom said she had to fatten me up. Well, a few days after I came here, and the same day I first went to the vet, I started not feeling well and didn't want anything much to eat--which is unusual for me. Then I just quit eating. I was sick, you see. One night, Mom had to squirt watered down baby food down my throat so I wouldn't get sicker and get dehydrated. Mom checked on me the next morning, which was a Sunday, and I had blood in my bed and on me. She called the emergency vet and had me checked out. I had lost almost a pound in less than a week, and as Mom said, I didn't have any to lose to begin with. I had a pretty high fever, too. Well, as it turned out, I was going to have kittens, but I got an infection that made me start to lose them. They were way too small to live, and since I was going to be spayed anyway, Mom told the vet to go ahead and do it right then because Mom didn't want me to be sick any more. She brought me home that very night and gave me lots of good food to eat. I was really hungry after my fever came down and I started to feel better. Mom and Poppa took real good care of me and I'm all better now. People told Mom she saved my life by watching over me so closely and getting me to the emergency vet when she did. Mom and Poppa were told that I wasn't allowed to go outside at my former home. They don't believe it though, since my sister had babies at the SPCA and I would have if I hadn't gotten sick. Well, after I got over my surgery, and I had all my shots, Mom and Poppa started introducing me into the house and to the other kitties. There were so many of them! I told them right up front that I wasn't taking anything off of them, you can be sure. Most of them just looked at me funny when I did that, but a couple of them gave it right back to me! Now I'm in the house for good and getting used to everything and everykitty. It's pretty cool in here, actually. Mom bought me my own bed and I sleep in it a lot, but there are lots of other places to sleep. And we get fed really well, although I'd like more. Mom says she doesn't want me to get *too* fat, though. And there are lots of windows where we can look at birds and squirrels. I like it here a lot and I tell Mom and Poppa that all the time. I talk a lot because I'm happy. |
