Caution: Cigarette Smoking May Be Hazardous to Your Health.

No one disputes the existence of a strong relationship between smoking and certain illnesses. This relationship indicates that smokers are less healthy than non-smokers and that they also have an increased probability of early death. Smokers are also ill more often than non-smokers, and the source of their illness is often the one that kills them--heart disease, cancer, or chronic obstructive lung disease. And, the incidence of acute illness is higher, as is the amount of time missed from work due to illness. These facts have led to the conclusion that smoking is not only a substantial health risk, but also the leading single cause of preventable death in the United States.

Smokers have five times the risk of heart attack as non-smokers.

Red Ball Smoking tobacco is directly related to cancer (lung, oral, throat), emphysema, and other respiratory diseases.

Red Ball Use of smokeless tobacco is associated with heart disease and cancer.

Red Ball Pregnant women who smoke increase the risk of health problems for their unborn babies.

Red Ball Second-hand smoke (smoke created by smokers) can cause health problems for people who breathe it.

Red Ball Cigarette smoke contains about 4,000 chemicals, many of which are poisonous. More than 40 of them cause cancer.

Red Ball Your chances of getting lung cancer are 10 times greater than a non-smoker.

Red Ball Your children are twice as likely to be smokers when they grow up.
